With over 24 years experience in the computer consulting business, Matthew Orr has
worked throughout the phenomenal growth of the PC industry. From the
PC industry’s infancy in 1982, to the present, he has worked to make PCs the ubiquitous
computing platform it is today.
As a computer network architect for the State of California, Mr. Orr designed and
implemented several large computer systems. His principal responsibilities
included Integrating PC systems into mainframe and UNIX environments, and building
the organization’s campus and national network infrastructures.
Mr. Orr graduated Magna Cum Laude from National University, Sacramento, California
in 1992 with a BS in Computer Science with an emphasis in Software Engineering.
As an instructor at Golden Gate University, Sacramento, California, Mr. Orr taught
database Management System courses. Lectures included database design
methodologies, normalization, performance tuning, and platform selection. Mr.
Orr is a SQL Server Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP: 391269).
In 1995 Mr. Orr moved from California to Madison, Wisconsin. “I was
looking for a better quality-of-life for my family… we found it on a small hobby
farm in Fox Lake, Wisconsin”. After 4 years working as a Systems Consultant
for a local consulting firm in Madison, Mr. Orr decided it was time to branch out
on his own. He founded InfoSys Consulting, Inc. in 1999.
John graduated in 1987 from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a major
in communications and television production. As a videographer he worked
freelance for True Value Hardware, CSPAN, NBC, ABC's Monday Night Football and several
others in video production. After years working with PCs with green screens,
no hard drives, and clock speeds slower than most pre-school toys by today’s standards,
John recognized potential for home computing. In the 1990's John sold
PCs and servers to small businesses and home users. At that time, networks
were based on token ring, Pentiums were over $3000, and CD-ROMs weren't invented. In
1996 he was employed by the State of Wisconsin in an Information Technology position
for the State Lottery.
Starting in 2000, Mr. Edgar worked for the Department of Corrections Technology
Management team. While working for the department, john helped build
and support Wide Area Networks for inmate educational use. This was a
unique challenge because the skill set of the users varied from inmates who were
illiterate, to inmates incarcerated for computer crimes. This made security
on the systems a priority. The result was a network comprising over 20
sites and 1000 machines that helped facilitate the legal, and educational needs
of its users--while maintaining a secure system.
In his home he keeps up with digital camera and video technologies. He
maintains digital still and video editing computers in his home, and has worked
with 3-D photo technologies. He is also an audiophile researching Dolby
Digital systems, and has designed and built subwoofers--much to his wife's displeasure. These
technologies have benefitted clients where video and audio technologies have converged
with computer technology.
John Joined InfoSys Consulting in September 2005, and currently specializes in desktop
deployment, server support, photo, video, and mobile technologies.
